Product Description

Now the thing about Alan is that he is rather shy. More commonly found hiding in his snug little spaceship than running around scaring people. Win Alan's trust and you may find him popping out of his spaceship all the time. He loves to watch Star Wars films, but his main hobby is making crop circles, (Shh, don't tell anyone!).

Alan's Spaceship is a sturdy double walled craft of ingenious construction. Guaranteed to get him safely through the toughest of asteroid belts. Spaceship features a fully removable lid and would make a great trinket or treasure box too, (with Alan's permission of course).

Includes detailed instructions and clear photographs and diagrams to help you create this other worldly ensemble.

Using light worsted weight (DK/8 ply) yarn and a size C (2.75mm) Hook. Alan measures approx. 3 " (7cm) tall.

This pattern is written in American crochet terminology and includes a handy stitch conversion chart so you can translate to British crochet terms instead should you wish to.

Alan the Alien and his Flying Saucer Crochet Pattern

What is Being Made

Alan the Alien and his Flying Saucer is a crochet toy pattern designed by Moji-Moji Design. This project creates two coordinated amigurumi pieces: a friendly alien character named Alan and his accompanying flying saucer spacecraft. These soft, stuffed toys are ideal for decorative display, imaginative play, or as handmade gifts for children and collectors of whimsical crochet creations.

Craft and Project Type

This is a crochet project classified as an intermediate difficulty level, making it suitable for crafters with some prior crochet experience who are ready to tackle more complex shaping and assembly techniques. The pattern uses American crochet terminology, which is essential to note for proper stitch execution, as American and British crochet terminology differ significantly in their stitch names and construction methods.

Crochet Stitches and Techniques Used

The pattern employs fundamental and intermediate crochet stitches to construct the three-dimensional toy forms:

  • Chain stitch (ch) – Used to create the foundation and starting points for rounds
  • Single crochet (sc) – The primary stitch for building dense, sturdy fabric suitable for stuffed toys
  • Double crochet (dc) – Employed for creating varied fabric texture and structure
  • Slip stitch (slst) – Used to join rounds and create seamless transitions
  • Single crochet 2 stitches together (sc2tog) – A decrease technique for shaping
  • Invisible decrease (invdec) – An advanced decrease method that creates nearly invisible seams and professional-looking shaping, particularly useful for amigurumi construction

Pattern Structure and Abbreviations

The pattern uses standard crochet abbreviations and symbols to provide clear instructions. Round brackets ( ) indicate groups of stitches to be worked into the same stitch or space, specify stitch counts at round completion, and contain explanatory notes. Square brackets [ ] contain stitch groups to be repeated the number of times specified after the brackets. Asterisks (*) mark repeat points within pattern instructions, allowing for efficient pattern writing and easier following of repetitive sequences.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

This pattern is designed to work with DK weight yarn, a lightweight yarn that creates appropriately sized, detailed amigurumi toys with good stitch definition. Crocheters will need a crochet hook appropriate for DK weight yarn (typically a size E/3.5mm or F/3.75mm hook, though specific hook size should be verified in the complete pattern). Stuffing material (polyester fiberfill or similar) will be required to fill the completed Alan and Flying Saucer pieces, and a yarn needle will be needed for weaving in ends and assembling the separate components into finished toys.

Pattern Format

Alan the Alien and his Flying Saucer is provided as a downloadable PDF pattern, offering convenient digital access for printing or screen reference while crocheting. This format allows crafters to work at their own pace and refer back to instructions as needed throughout the project.
