Knitting Techniques Used

The A-Factor Cardigan employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate-level crafters. The primary construction method is stockinette stitch, which creates a smooth, classic fabric with a distinctive V-shaped pattern on the right side. Additional shaping techniques include decreases using methods such as knit two stitches together (K2tog) and slip-slip-knit (SSK), which are essential for creating fitted shaping in the garment's body and sleeves.

Stitches and Stitch Abbreviations

The pattern uses standard knitting abbreviations and stitch techniques:

  • K# (Knit): The fundamental knit stitch worked across a specified number of stitches
  • P# (Purl): The reverse of the knit stitch, creating texture when alternated
  • K2tog (Knit Two Together): A right-leaning decrease that combines two stitches into one
  • SSK (Slip, Slip, Knit): A left-leaning decrease created by slipping two stitches individually knitwise, then knitting them together through the back loops
  • Stitch Markers (SM#): Used to mark pattern repeats and construction points
  • RS/WS Notation: Right side and wrong side designations for pattern clarity
