1:12th Scale Wedding Posy by Frances Powell
What is Being Made
This project creates a miniature wedding posy holder designed for 1:12th scale dollhouse settings, suitable for a bride or bridesmaid figure. The finished posy measures approximately ¾-inch (2 cm) across by 1-inch (2.5 cm) high, including the decorative flowers. The pattern also includes instructions for a matching buttonhole flower for a bridegroom figure, making it a complete wedding accessory set for miniature doll displays.
Difficulty Level and Skill Requirements
This is an advanced crochet project intended exclusively for experienced crochet workers. The pattern explicitly states it is not suitable for beginners due to the extremely tiny crochet hooks required for working at 1:12th scale. The miniature nature of the finished piece demands precision, fine motor control, and substantial crochet experience.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches Used
The pattern employs fundamental crochet stitches adapted for miniature work, including:
- Chain stitch (ch) – the foundation stitch used throughout the pattern
- Double crochet (dc) – also referred to as single crochet in US terminology
- Treble crochet (tr) – equivalent to double crochet in US terms, used for taller stitches
- Half treble crochet (htr) – also called half double crochet in US terminology
- Slip stitch (sl) – used for joining rounds and shaping
- V-stitch (V-st) – a special abbreviation in this pattern defined as [1 tr, 1 ch, 1 tr] all worked into the next stitch, creating a decorative V-shaped element
- Chain spaces (ch sp) – chain loops that create openwork and structural elements
The pattern uses UK crochet terminology throughout. US crochet workers should note the conversions: UK dc equals US single crochet, UK tr equals US double crochet, and UK htr equals US half double crochet.
Materials and Tools
Creating this 1:12th scale posy requires specialized materials suited to miniature work:
- Crochet hook: 0.40 mm hook – an extremely fine size essential for achieving the tiny gauge required
- Yarn/Thread: No. 100 crochet cotton – a fine weight thread suitable for delicate, detailed miniature crochet work
- Quantity: A small amount of thread is needed, as the finished piece is only 2.5 cm in height
- Finishing: Starch is required for finishing the posy holder, helping to set the shape and structure of the delicate crochet work
The pattern notes that a larger hook and thread can be substituted if desired, though this would increase the finished size of the posy holder.
Gauge and Scale
The gauge for this pattern is specified as Round 4 equaling 3/8th-inch (1 cm) in diameter, which ensures the proper miniature proportions for 1:12th scale dollhouse decoration. Maintaining accurate gauge is critical when working at such a small scale.
