1:12th Scale Man's Golf Set (c. 1930s) by Frances Powell
Project Overview
This downloadable knitting pattern creates an authentic 1930s-era golf ensemble for 6-inch (15 cm) dolls house dolls. The complete set comprises three coordinated pieces: a blouson-style golf jacket, matching socks, and a set of golf club covers. Designed by Frances Powell, this advanced-level project captures the subdued, natural color palette favored for men's clothing during the early-to-late 1930s period.
What is Being Made
- Golf Jacket: A blouson-style jacket in the early 1930s silhouette, featuring pocket details with small buttons and a fitted neckline and cuffs
- Socks: Coordinating socks to complement the jacket ensemble
- Golf Club Covers: A set of protective covers for golf clubs, styled in the late 1930s aesthetic
Finished Dimensions
All pieces are scaled to fit 1:12th scale dolls house dolls:
- Golf Jacket: 4 cm (1½ inches) from neck to hem; 5 cm (2 inches) across chest; 4 cm (1½ inches) sleeve length from neck to wrist
- Socks: 2.5 cm (1 inch) foot length; 3 cm (1¼ inches) from top to heel
- Golf Club Covers: 3 cm (1¼ inches) long and 1 cm (¼ inch) wide
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This advanced-level project employs fine-gauge knitting techniques appropriate for miniature dolls house garments. The blouson jacket construction requires shaping at the waist and cuffs to achieve the period-accurate silhouette. Pocket placement and button attachment demand precision work. The socks utilize traditional sock construction methods scaled to miniature proportions, including heel and toe shaping. Golf club covers employ simple tubular knitting techniques. Gauge is noted as non-critical for dolls house work, allowing knitters flexibility in achieving proper fit and drape on the finished doll.
