This design calls on my memories of the everchanging intertidal coastline near Baie Verte, NB (Canada). It is said that the bay was named by French explorers in the 17th C for “the salt water grasses which in the summer make the bay look like an immense meadow." (W.F. Ganong)
The Strandlines Shawl forms a right-angle triangle worked sideways from the tip with increases on every RS row along the bias edge. Three stitch patterns make up the repeating stripe pattern - texture for the "seaweed" and lace for the "tidal channels" and "seashells". All three look equally attractive from either side, making the shawl reversible! The pattern includes row-by-row written instructions (with st counts) and charts.
Gauge: 26 sts x 32 rows to 10 cm/4 in using a 4 mm (US 6) needle. Achieving the blocked gauge will produce a shawl of similar size and drape as the sample shawl, as well as meet the yardage.
Diagonal = 178 cm/70 in
L = 147.5 cm/58 in
W = 99 cm/39 in
