Product Description
This relaxed slipper style ankle sock is perfect for staying cosy at home this Winter. This quick crochet project is made in one piece from the toe up, with no need for seaming! Finished with a pretty row of bobble stitches, you could also add in some extra rows after turning the heel to make a longer sock. I used 2 100g balls of Debbie Bliss Merion, a 50% merino and acrylic blend. You could use any chunky/12-ply yarn, just adapt hook size if needed to obtain the necessary tension. Pattern includes 3 size options for ladies sizes from UK 1-9 / US 3-11 / EU 33-42
You will need:
7mm hook
2x100g balls of Debbie Bliss Merion: 100g, 50% wool/50% acrylic, 100m/109yds

Snow Day Slipper Sock by Hello Moon Crochet
What is Being Made
The Snow Day Slipper Sock is a relaxed, ankle-height slipper-style sock designed for cosy winter wear at home. This crochet pattern offers three size options to fit UK ladies sizes 1 through 9 (US sizes 3 through 11), with foot lengths ranging from 22cm to 26cm depending on the size selected. The design prioritizes comfort and ease of construction, making it an ideal project for those seeking a quick, wearable finished piece.
Construction Method
The Snow Day Slipper Sock is constructed in one piece from the toe up, eliminating the need for seaming. This toe-up approach streamlines the building process and creates a seamless, comfortable fit. The pattern includes the option to add extra rows after turning the heel if you prefer a longer sock style, allowing for customization based on personal preference.
Stitches and Techniques Used
- Double crochet (dc) – the primary stitch used throughout the pattern, providing structure and drape
- Half treble (htr) – an alternative stitch option for achieving the required tension
- Bobble stitches – decorative finishing detail that creates a pretty textured row at the top of the sock
- Heel turning – shaping technique to form the foot and ankle portions
Yarn and Materials
The pattern was designed using Debbie Bliss Merion, a yarn blend composed of 50% merino wool and 50% acrylic. Each 100g ball provides 100 metres (109 yards) of yardage. The project requires 2 balls of this chunky-weight yarn, totalling 200g. However, the pattern is adaptable to any chunky or 12-ply weight yarn; crocheters should adjust hook size as needed to achieve the correct tension for their chosen yarn.
Hook Size and Tension
A 7mm crochet hook is used with the recommended Debbie Bliss Merion yarn. The pattern specifies a tension of 12 stitches over 12 rows in double crochet (or 12.5 stitches over 9 rows in half treble) measured over a 10x10cm swatch. Achieving proper tension is essential for obtaining the correct finished sock dimensions.
Difficulty Level
The Snow Day Slipper Sock is rated as an intermediate difficulty project. While the pattern uses fundamental crochet stitches such as double crochet and half treble, the combination of toe-up construction, heel shaping, and bobble stitch finishing requires some experience with crochet techniques and the ability to follow pattern instructions for shaping.
