Project Overview

This is a reversible knitted baby blanket designed for versatility in nursery settings. The finished blanket measures approximately 37 ¾" x 37 ¼" (96 x 94.5 cm), making it an ideal size for infant warmth and comfort. The reversible construction means either side can be displayed, offering flexible styling options for different décor preferences.

What Is Being Made

A lightweight, lace-patterned baby blanket suitable for newborns and toddlers. The blanket combines decorative lace elements with textured stitch patterns to create visual interest while maintaining breathability for safe infant use. The reversible design adds practical value, as caregivers can choose which pattern side to use depending on preference or washing rotation.

Knitting Techniques Used

This intermediate-level project employs fundamental lace-knitting techniques combined with textured stitch work. The pattern incorporates yarn overs and decreases to create openwork sections, which are balanced with solid stitch areas for structural integrity. Circular needles are used to manage the large number of stitches across the blanket's width, allowing for smooth, continuous knitting without the need for seaming.

Stitches Used

This row is repeated throughout, creating a consistent openwork design with a gauge of 19 stitches by 27–28 rows per 4 inches.
• Moss Stitch Pattern: A textured stitch pattern worked over a multiple of 4 stitches. The pattern alternates between knit and purl stitches across 4 rows: Row 1 (right side) knit 2, purl 2; Rows 2 and 3 purl 2, knit 2; Row 4 knit 2, purl 2. This creates a subtle, bumpy texture that contrasts with the lace sections.

Materials and Tools

Yarn: Bernat Baby Sport Ombres in the color Tiny Tulips. This yarn is 100% acrylic, classified as light weight (weight category #3), and comes in a single 10-ounce ball containing 892 yards (816 meters). The pattern requires 1 ball plus an additional 100–200 yards for completion, allowing for finishing and any adjustments.

Needles: US 6 (4 mm) circular knitting needles, 29–32 inches in length. Circular needles of this size accommodate the blanket's width while maintaining even tension throughout the project.

Gauge: 19 stitches by 27–28 rows equals 4 inches by 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) when measured over the stitch patterns. Achieving the correct gauge is essential before beginning the blanket to ensure the finished size matches the pattern specifications.

Yarn Weight and Fiber Content

The pattern uses DK and sport weight yarns, with the featured yarn being sport weight acrylic.
