March 2013 update - updated pattern instructions give detailed modifications for using fingering weight yarn & including a lace motif in the stripes

The Fibonacci sequence of numbers has often been used as the basis for striping in textiles, due to the interesting movement it creates in the fabric. Pairing this sequence with offset color changes, finished into a continuous loop, creates a simple piece that is visually dynamic & interesting to knit.
Gather up your yarn “orphans” - those single balls of yarn that have been patiently waiting to find their purpose, left over from a much loved project. This easy to knit project is an excellent carry-along stashbuster.
As shown, each color sequence uses about 100 yards - but call on your own creativity to introduce colors as you choose. This scarf is also knitted in the round at a slightly looser gauge, for a soft, warm scarf of double thickness; the ends are grafted together for a seamless flow of the Fibonacci pattern.
