The Braided Breeze Belt + Necklace was inspired by the African rope necklace. A rope necklace can be made from printed fabric to create unique color combinations and patterns that would be impossible to replicate with yarn, but multi-colored yarns make for a fun, unique look.

If you don’t have a bulky yarn to use, double up a worsted weight yarn. This is a great stash buster project.

This pattern is not to be duplicated or resold, and not to be reproduced commercially. You may sell finished products on Etsy, at farmers markets, and craft fairs, but please credit Creations By Courtney as the pattern’s author.

Braided Breeze Necklace + Belt by Creations By Courtney

Project Overview

The Braided Breeze Necklace + Belt is a versatile crochet accessory set designed by Creations By Courtney. This downloadable PDF pattern allows crafters to create two complementary pieces: a necklace and a coordinating belt. Both items feature braided construction techniques that create visual texture and dimension, making them suitable for adding a handmade accent to casual and semi-formal outfits.

What Is Being Made

This pattern includes instructions for creating two separate crochet accessories:

  • Belt: A structured belt measuring 30.5 inches in length and 2.5 inches in width (excluding rope attachments), designed to cinch at the waist
  • Necklace: A coordinating necklace piece that complements the belt design

Crochet Techniques Used

The Braided Breeze pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for advanced beginners looking to build their skills. The braiding method creates textural interest through strategic stitch placement and yarn manipulation. The pattern utilizes foundation single crochet as a starting technique, which allows crafters to build stitches and a foundation row simultaneously, eliminating the need for a separate starting chain. This technique is particularly useful for creating stable edges on accessories like belts that require structure and durability.

Stitches and Abbreviations

The pattern uses a limited but essential stitch vocabulary, making it accessible for intermediate-level crocheters:

  • ch: chain stitch, the foundation of crochet work
  • sc: single crochet, the shortest and tightest crochet stitch, providing structure
  • slst: slip stitch, used for joining rounds and creating seamless transitions
  • fsc: foundation single crochet, combining a chain and single crochet in one motion

Additional abbreviations include sk (skip), st(s) (stitch or stitches), and FO (fasten off).

Materials and Tools Required

The pattern calls for specific yarn weights and quantities to achieve the intended texture and drape:

  • Crochet Hook: M/9mm size, appropriate for working with chunky-weight yarns
  • Yarn: The pattern specifies Bernat Maker Outdoor (8.8 oz, 249 yards) for one skein, combined with Bernat Mosaic Yarn (3.5 oz, 209 yards) in two skeins held double, or alternatively 5 oz of any bulky-weight yarn. This combination creates the chunky texture essential to the braided effect
  • Additional Supplies: Stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats, scissors for cutting yarn, and a large-eye needle for weaving in ends and assembling pieces

Pattern Notes and Specifications

The pattern is written in US crochet terminology. Gauge is noted as not critical for this project, allowing crafters flexibility in their tension and yarn choices. The pattern provides the option to substitute foundation single crochet with a traditional starting chain followed by single crochet stitches in each chain for the first row. This flexibility accommodates different skill levels and personal preferences in crochet construction methods.

Difficulty Level

While the product attributes list this as intermediate difficulty, the pattern itself is marked as advanced beginner level. This makes it an excellent project for crafters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to explore slightly more complex construction techniques like braiding and foundation stitches. The straightforward stitch selection and non-critical gauge requirements make it forgiving for those still building confidence in their crochet skills.
