Finishing and care

Block plant-fibre knits firmly; they take a hard blocking better than wool and will hold the shape you pin them to. Seam with mattress stitch worked in a smooth matching yarn, and avoid splitty seaming with a heavily textured yarn – a plain cotton in the same shade is easier and invisible from the outside. Wash cotton and linen garments cool and dry flat, reshaping while damp. Linen softens with every wash, so a fabric that feels stiff off the needles will be quite different after a month of wear.
