Just learned how to crochet a few weeks ago (though I've been an avid knitter for years), and I've wanted to make the Wildrose Backpack ever since I first saw a picture of it. Was worried the pattern would be too complicated for me, but Stephanie Lau's instructions and video tutorials (on her blog All About Ami) made it so that even this beginner crocheter could understand them. Made this backpack using Bernat Handicrafter Cotton yarn in Off-White, which is a little larger worsted yarn than the recommended 24-7 cotton yarn and, therefore, does crochet a slightly larger backpack, but I really liked how it turned out nonetheless! Also, the big single ball of Handicrafter yarn I got at Walmart only cost $10 and made the whole backpack, so that was a definite plus! I am, however, going to make another backpack for my daughter using the 24-7 in Taupe. The yarn cost more like $30, but the 24-7 cotton is mercerized and has a finer look to it. Will be interested to compare the two when done!
