The shawl is worked from one tip to the other. It is written in such a way that you can make it as large or as little as you want. I used light fingering weight yarn and one skein was enough to make a nicely sized and very lightweight shawlette. But you can choose any weight yarn, I think it would be quite spectacular in a smooth aran weight yarn on larger needles! If working the shawl in 4 ply yarn I would suggest 4.5mm needle.
