Product Description
Here is a cozy hooded cardigan perfect for walking along the seawall or window shopping in Yaletown on a lazy Sunday morning. Wear it as a coat when the weather’s good, layer it under rain gear when it’s not, or just wrap yourself up in it while you sit inside by the fire. The allover pinecone lace looks impressive but is easy to memorize. There’s no complicated shaping to worry about (the body and sleeves of the sweater are all simple rectangles), so you can easily adjust the length and sleeve circumference to fit your own body. If you find the hood daunting, you could substitute a plain ribbed collar instead. This is a somewhat heavy garment, so the body and sleeves are worked flat and seamed together to give it structure. Ribbing at the front edges flows into a shawl collar which is then worked into a hood that’s grafted together at the centre to form a flattering frame for your face. *Note: allow 3-6” (or more) positive ease for best results.

What is Being Made
The Yaletown Hoodie is a cozy hooded cardigan designed for layering and everyday wear. This knitted garment features a shawl collar that transitions into a hood, making it suitable for various weather conditions—from casual wear on a seawall stroll to a layering piece under rain gear or a fireside wrap. The design emphasizes both comfort and versatility, with the option to substitute a plain ribbed collar if the hood construction feels too challenging.
Construction and Shaping
The garment uses a straightforward construction method that prioritizes ease and customization. The body and sleeves are worked as simple rectangles, eliminating complicated shaping concerns. This rectangular approach allows knitters to easily adjust the length and sleeve circumference to achieve a custom fit. Because this is a somewhat heavy garment, the body and sleeves are worked flat and then seamed together to provide proper structure and support. The ribbing at the front edges flows seamlessly into a shawl collar, which is subsequently worked into the hood. The hood is grafted together at the centre, creating a flattering frame for the face.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The signature design element is an allover pinecone lace pattern that adorns the garment. Despite its impressive appearance, this lace motif is easy to memorize, making it accessible for intermediate-level knitters. The pattern includes ribbing at the front edges and collar area, providing structure and a polished finish.
Yarn and Materials
This pattern calls for aran weight yarn, which is a chunky yarn that works up quickly, allowing knitters to complete the project in a reasonable timeframe. The substantial weight of the yarn contributes to the garment's cozy, structured nature and accelerates the knitting process.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate, this pattern is suitable for knitters with some experience. While the pinecone lace pattern and hood grafting require intermediate skills, the straightforward rectangular construction and easy-to-memorize stitch pattern keep the project manageable and rewarding.
