Product Description
A Miter rectangle jacket with 3 different yarns This cardigan/jacket is a wonderful addition to your wardrobe. 4 different sizes available.
It is made using 3 colors. Miter rectangles with different pattern stitches makes this a “can’t put down” until finished. Fun to do, as you decrease and change the stitch pattern.’ Easy to read, each row written out, xerox the pattern and cross out your rows. I used Prism yarns to add texture and a nice finish. I cord around the front bands and bottom gives it a luxurious finish
Enjoy!!
Winterfelt Joy Knitted Jacket by Brigitte Reydams
Project Overview
Winterfelt Joy is an intermediate-level knitted jacket designed by Brigitte Reydams. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a sophisticated layering piece measuring 29 inches in length, with finished bust measurements available in four sizes: 40, 44, 48, and 52 inches. The design combines multiple stitch techniques and yarn colors to create visual depth and texture.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a complete knitted jacket suitable for intermediate knitters. The garment is constructed using a combination of stitch patterns and incorporates strategic shaping through miter decreases. The jacket is designed as a versatile piece that works well as a layering garment, with a finished length of 29 inches.
Knitting Techniques Used
- Stockinette Stitch: A fundamental knit fabric created by alternating knit rows on the right side with purl rows on the wrong side, providing a smooth, classic appearance
- Garter Stitch: Created by knitting every row, producing a textured, reversible fabric with horizontal ridges
- Fisherman Stitch: A decorative pattern stitch that combines knit and purl stitches with knit-below techniques to create a textured surface
- Miter Shaping: Strategic decreases worked on right-side and wrong-side rows to create diagonal lines and fitted shaping, using slip-stitch pass-over decreases and knit-two-together decreases positioned around markers
- Marker Placement: Stitch markers are used to track miter decrease points throughout the pattern
Stitches and Abbreviations
- K1: Knit 1 stitch
- P1: Purl 1 stitch
- PSSO: Pass slipped stitch over (a left-leaning decrease created by knitting 1, slipping 1, and passing the knit stitch over the slipped stitch)
- K2tog: Knit 2 stitches together (a right-leaning decrease)
- M: Marker
- RS: Right side of the fabric
- WS: Wrong side of the fabric
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Winterfelt Joy jacket is worked in aran-weight yarn, which provides excellent stitch definition and creates a fabric with good drape and structure. The pattern requires three coordinating yarns from Prism, each serving a specific design purpose:
- Prism Wild Stuff (Winterfelt): Used as an accent yarn in quantities of 1, 1, 1½, or 1½ skeins depending on size. Each full skein contains 300 yards, with half skeins providing 150 yards
- Prism Symphony (Larkspur): The primary yarn, requiring 8, 9, 10, or 10 skeins based on size. Each skein provides 118 yards
- Prism Slinky (Moss): A secondary yarn used in 2, 2, 3, or 3 skeins depending on size, with each skein containing 200 yards
Needles and Gauge
The pattern is worked on Size 7 needles with a gauge of 4.5 stitches per inch measured over stockinette stitch. Stitch markers are required to track the miter decrease lines throughout construction. Achieving the correct gauge is essential for obtaining the proper finished measurements.
Pattern Construction Details
The Winterfelt Joy uses a combination of pattern stitches to create visual interest. The Fisherman stitch pattern alternates between knit rows and mixed knit-purl rows with knit-below techniques, creating a textured fabric. The miter pattern is worked on alternating right-side and wrong-side rows, with decreases positioned symmetrically around markers to create fitted shaping. This combination of techniques requires intermediate knitting skills and careful attention to stitch placement and marker management.
