Product Description

Using 2 solid colors of worsted weight yarn and basic knitting stitches, this throw is a joy to knit! The solid border (knit at the same time as the mosaic rows) adds more visual interest and finishes off the throw nicely! This throw is great for babies, weddings, or every day!

This throw is worked in the Mosaic Knitting technique, which was made popular by Barbara Walker many years ago. The pattern includes complete written instructions, as well as charts.

The throw can be made in Small, Large or almost any size desired. Simply follow the included information regarding the yardage required for each repeat of the pattern to calculate the amount of yarn needed for the desired size of throw.

I’ve admired the geometric pattern in the lampshades in my master bedroom for years! So I decided to design a knit throw/blanket with this striking pattern in it. This design reminds me of the quilt pattern, Wedding Rings, so hence the name of this lovely pattern!

Wedding Rings Throw by Susan Lowman

Project Overview

The Wedding Rings Throw is a knitted blanket design inspired by geometric patterns found in home décor, specifically lampshade designs. This versatile project can be created in multiple sizes—from a small 37" x 37" throw to a large 44" x 58" blanket—making it suitable for various applications including throws, baby blankets, and full-size blankets. The design features a striking geometric pattern worked in two contrasting solid colors, complemented by a solid-colored border that frames and finishes the piece.

Craft and Technique

This is a knitting project designed for knitters with intermediate skill level. The pattern employs basic knitting stitches to create the geometric Wedding Rings motif, making it accessible to experienced knitters while remaining engaging for those developing their skills. The repeating stitch pattern allows crafters to customize the final dimensions by working additional or fewer pattern repeats across the width and height of the throw, providing flexibility in project scope and yarn requirements.

Stitches and Pattern Construction

The Wedding Rings Throw utilizes basic knitting stitches to build its geometric design. The pattern is constructed using repeating stitch motifs that can be multiplied to achieve different finished sizes. The small version requires 5 pattern repeats wide by 5 repeats high, while the large version uses 6 repeats wide by 8 repeats high. The solid border is worked separately and adds visual definition to the geometric center pattern, creating a polished, finished appearance.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Wedding Rings Throw is designed to be worked with worsted weight yarn in two contrasting solid colors. The pattern accommodates aran and worsted weight yarns, allowing crafters some flexibility in yarn selection within these weight categories. Specific yardage requirements vary based on the chosen finished size; the pattern includes guidance for calculating yarn needs when modifying dimensions beyond the two provided sizes. Knitters should ensure they purchase sufficient yardage before beginning their chosen size variation.

Size Options and Customization

  • Small Throw: Approximately 37" wide x 37" high (94 x 94 cm), worked with 5 pattern repeats wide by 5 repeats high
  • Large Throw: Approximately 44" wide x 58" high (112 x 147 cm), worked with 6 pattern repeats wide by 8 repeats high
  • Custom Sizing: The pattern can be enlarged or reduced by working additional or fewer repeats of the stitch pattern across and/or down the piece, with corresponding adjustments to yarn yardage requirements

Design Features

The geometric Wedding Rings pattern creates visual interest through the interplay of two solid yarn colors, forming interlocking circular or ring-like motifs. The solid border frames the patterned center, providing contrast and a professional finishing touch. This design approach makes the throw equally effective as a decorative home accent, a baby blanket, or a full-size bed covering, depending on which size option the crafter selects.
