Versatile Turtleneck & Hat

The Versatile Turtleneck is a great option to a scarf for winter outings. It knits up quickly on a circular needle, and the simple ribbed pattern makes a perfect on-the-go project, even for a beginning knitter. Use any worsted/aran weight yarn that gives an approximate 4 stitches = 1" gauge. I used Red Heart Supersaver in the samples, but have also used blends with wool, silk and mohair. Don't worry if your gauge isn't exact - the finished turtleneck has a lot of stretch.

I've knit dozens of turtlenecks as gifts for relatives and friends. Several teens asked for another. They were wearing them as headbands, neckbands, and even hats! 

I've included instructions for a matching ribbed watch cap, plus 2 versions of ribbed head bands and gift tags. There are 5 sizes which will fit a young child to large adult. The skills required are working on a circular needle (plus double pointed needles for the cap decreases), Knit, Purl, Knit 2 Stitches Together, Cast On and Bind Off.
