Product Description

Crochet market bag for the beach or for yarn shopping!

This beautiful net is made in post double crochet in a lacy pattern that looks like tulips or snowdrops.

The finished net measures approximately 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 in) and has a lot of elasticity.

The pattern has written instructions for the complete bag, a chart for the lace pattern and a photo tutorial for front post stitches.

I used 3.5 skeins of Camarose Pimacotton (200 m/50 g) and a 2.5 mm hook.

Available in english (US terms) and danish.

Tulipan Market Bag by Sidsel Sangild

What is Being Made

The Tulipan Market Bag is a practical and stylish crocheted tote designed by Sidsel Sangild. This downloadable crochet pattern creates a spacious market bag perfect for carrying groceries, flowers, or everyday items. The finished bag measures 40 cm wide at its widest point and 30 cm tall, with excellent stretch and flexibility for accommodating various contents.

Crochet Techniques Used

This intermediate-level crochet project employs fundamental techniques suitable for crafters with some experience. The pattern utilizes double crochet stitches as the primary construction method, worked in continuous rounds to create the bag's structure. The design incorporates increases strategically placed throughout the rounds to shape the bag and create its characteristic form. Stitch abbreviations used in the pattern include dc (double crochet), F (which represents the primary stitch used in shaping), ch (chain), and sl st (slip stitch). The slip stitch technique joins rounds seamlessly, while chain stitches create the foundation and transition points within the pattern.

Stitches Included

  • Double Crochet (dc) – forms the main fabric and structural base of the bag
  • Chain Stitch (ch) – used for turning chains and pattern transitions
  • Slip Stitch (sl st) – joins rounds and creates seamless connections
  • Increase Stitches – multiple stitches worked into single stitches to shape the bag's expanding form

Materials and Yarn Specifications

This project requires 4 skeins of Pimabomuld yarn from Camarose, a premium 100% cotton fiber. The yarn is classified as 4-ply weight, with each skein providing 200 meters or 219 yards and weighing 50 grams (1.76 ounces). The recommended hook size is 2.5 mm, which pairs appropriately with the 4-ply yarn weight to create a firm, structured fabric suitable for a functional market bag. The pattern specifies Colour 3232 from the Camarose collection. Cotton yarn is an excellent choice for market bags as it provides durability, breathability, and natural stiffness that helps the bag maintain its shape when filled.

Gauge and Sizing

The pattern does not require a separate gauge swatch before beginning. Instead, crafters should measure their gauge after completing the 7th round as instructed within the pattern itself. This approach allows for real-time adjustment and ensures the finished bag achieves the intended dimensions. The final market bag stretches generously, making it adaptable to various carrying needs while maintaining its structured appearance.
