What is Being Made

The Triangulation hat is a knitted beanie featuring a bold geometric colourwork design. This intermediate-level project produces a finished hat with a circumference of 48.5 cm (19.5 inches) for the small size, 54.5 cm (21.75 inches) for medium, and 60 cm (24 inches) for large. The design combines meditative repetitive knitting with striking colour contrast, creating a standout piece of knitwear suitable for everyday wear.

Construction Method

The Triangulation hat is knitted from the bottom up, beginning with a ribbed cuff that establishes the foundation. The cuff is constructed using a 2 x 2 rib stitch, which creates vertical lines of texture and provides stretch and recovery for a comfortable fit. After the ribbed cuff is complete, the main body transitions into the colourwork pattern section. The hat is finished with a pompom that coordinates with the cuff colour, and the cuff is designed to fold back on itself, providing extra insulation and cosiness around the ears.
