Product Description
The design for this cushion was inspired by my love of toadstools. I have quite a few toadstool themed items around my home, so this little cushion fits in perfectly. Making this cushion can be a good way to use up any double knitting leftovers that you may have lying around. It can also be knitted using beaded yarn in place of beads on the toadstool caps.

What is Being Made
The Toadstool Cushion is a decorative knitted cushion cover designed to fit over a 12-inch square cushion pad. Inspired by the designer's love of toadstools, this project combines colorful knitting with embellishment techniques to create a charming home décor piece featuring toadstool-themed details. The finished cushion is ideal for adding a whimsical touch to any room.
Knitting Techniques Used
This intermediate-level knitting project employs several techniques to achieve its finished design. The primary construction uses stocking stitch, which creates a smooth, classic knit fabric. The cushion incorporates bead knitting, where beads are threaded onto yarn before knitting to add texture and visual interest to the toadstool caps. Alternatively, beaded yarn can be substituted in place of individual beads for a streamlined approach. The project also includes button details for closure and finishing, making it a multi-technique piece that combines basic knitting with decorative embellishment.
Stitches and Construction Details
The cushion is constructed as a square-shaped piece worked in stocking stitch, the fundamental knit-purl pattern that forms the base of the design. The gauge is set at 22 stitches and 30 rows over 4 inches using 3.25mm needles, which is essential for achieving the correct finished dimensions. Beads are incorporated into the knitting using a crochet hook (0.8mm) to thread them onto the yarn before knitting, allowing them to be positioned strategically throughout the design, particularly on the toadstool motifs.
