Timido Pullover in Adriafil Pastello – Free Knitting Pattern Summary

The Timido Pullover is a cosy, oversized super-chunky knitted sweater designed for confident beginners and experienced knitters alike. This free downloadable PDF pattern from Adriafil produces a relaxed-fit raglan pullover with a generous ribbed collar, making it an ideal cold-weather wardrobe staple. The design is worked in pieces — back, front, and two sleeves — and then seamed together using a classic raglan construction.

What Is Being Made

The finished garment is a pullover sweater with a raglan sleeve construction, a ribbed hem border, a ribbed collar, and a shaped neckline. The silhouette is relaxed and chunky, suited to casual everyday wear. The pattern is written for size 50, with adjustments provided for sizes 48 and 52, making it accessible across a range of adult fits.

Materials Required

  • Yarn: Adriafil Pastello in grey, shade no. 24 — 650 grams required. Pastello is a super chunky weight yarn, which contributes to the sweater's substantial, warm texture and relatively quick knit-up time.
  • Knitting needles: size 10 (metric), used for the main body and sleeves
  • Crochet hook: size 8, used during the finishing and make-up stage
  • Tapestry needle: required for seaming the raglan and weaving in ends

Note: The pattern advises using knitting needles one size smaller than those indicated on the yarn label if a more compact, dense fabric is desired.

Gauge

The stated gauge is 9.5 stitches and 12.5 rows over 10 × 10 cm, worked in knit stitch on size 10 knitting needles. Checking gauge before beginning is essential to achieving the correct sizing, particularly given the chunky nature of the yarn where even small variations can significantly affect the finished dimensions.

Stitches and Techniques Used

  • Elastic rib: Used for the border rows at the beginning of each piece. This is a stretchy, structured ribbing worked over the first 4 rows to create a neat, stable hem edge.
  • K1/P1 rib stitch: A classic alternating knit-one, purl-one ribbing pattern used both in the border section and throughout the collar. This stitch creates a flexible, textured fabric that hugs the neckline comfortably.
  • Knit stitch (stockinette / plain knit fabric): The primary stitch used across the body and sleeves after the border section. In super chunky yarn, this produces a smooth, bold fabric with excellent drape and warmth.
  • Knit stitch to bind the elastic rib: A specific transitional technique used to join the elastic rib border to the main body of the fabric cleanly.
  • Chain stitch: A crochet technique used during the finishing stage, applied with the size 8 crochet hook.
  • Raglan shaping: Both the body and sleeves are shaped using a classic raglan decrease method. Stitches are cast off at the ends and then decreased inside 3 stitches, every 2 rows, to create the characteristic diagonal raglan seam line. The sleeve cap features a more complex decrease schedule, including decreases every 2 rows and every 4 rows at different stages.
  • Neckline shaping: On the front piece, centre stitches are cast off and the two sides are worked separately, with further decreases every 2 rows to create a smooth, rounded neckline.
  • Sleeve increases: The sleeves are gradually widened by increasing 1 stitch at each end every 10 rows, 4 times, to achieve the correct sleeve width before raglan shaping begins.
  • Collar construction: After seaming three of the four raglan seams and leaving one back raglan open, stitches are picked up around the neckline — 59 (

Good fit, challenging sleeve cap

The front and back are easy to knit. The sleeve cap is slightly difficult, in that I cannot understand the language used, and have asked Lovecraft to explain. The sleeve cap features a more complex decrease schedule, including decreases every 2 rows and every 4 rows at different stages. The wording is, 'When work measures 20 (18-22) cm. from beg. of raglan decr., at the ends of the 2 centre sts., 1 st. and 1 st. after 4 rows. When work measures 25 (23-27) cm. from beg. of raglan cross off the 8...
