This is an English written crochet pattern (US terminology) that requires worsted weight yarn and intermediate level crochet skills. The suggested yarn for this set is Lion Brand Jeans. It is recommended you obtain gauge (as close as possible) as outlined in the pattern so you don’t end up with a hat or cowl that’s too tight or too loose! The hat is written for newborn through adult sizes and is intended to have a slightly slouchy fit. Modifications have been provided in the pattern to make it longer or shorter to suit your preferences. The cowl is written for two sizes: child and adult. I do not recommend making a cowl for very young children or babies as this could pose a choking hazard. We want to keep the kiddos safe!
