The Copper Collection in Hoooked Ribbon XL Lurex – Pattern Summary

The Copper Collection is a stunning set of crochet home accessory patterns designed by Hoooked, worked in their signature Hoooked RibbonXL Lurex yarn in a warm copper metallic colourway. This downloadable PDF pattern collection is aimed at beginner-level crafters and covers two distinct projects: a Shiny Placemat and a Glitter Clutch. Both designs celebrate the luxurious, light-catching quality of the Lurex ribbon yarn, making them ideal for adding a touch of glamour to your home décor or accessory wardrobe.

About Hoooked RibbonXL Lurex

Hoooked RibbonXL is a bulky-weight, lightweight tape yarn made from 100% recycled cotton clips. Leftover fabric strips are selected by colour, shredded into yarn fibre, and spun before being knitted into a soft, airy tube — with no dyeing or chemical additives applied. The Lurex version adds a subtle metallic thread woven through the ribbon, giving finished projects a beautiful shimmering finish. RibbonXL is celebrated for its super soft, light, and airy texture, making it comfortable to work with even on large-scale projects. Its chunky weight means projects work up quickly, which is especially encouraging for beginners.

Project One: Shiny Placemat

What Is Being Made

The Shiny Placemat is a decorative, round crocheted table mat worked in the round from the centre outward. It is designed as a stylish table-setting accessory, perfect for adding a copper-toned metallic accent to a dining table or sideboard. The finished placemat features an open, lacy outer border that contrasts beautifully with the denser centre rounds.

Techniques Used

  • Working in the round – the placemat begins with a foundation ring and is built outward in circular rounds, a fundamental technique in crochet that creates seamless, flat circular fabric.
  • Increasing rounds – stitches are added at regular intervals in early rounds to keep the work flat and expand the diameter of the mat.
  • Non-increasing rounds – Round 5 is worked with one double crochet in each stitch of the previous round without any increases, consolidating the shape before the decorative border begins.
  • Arch or chain-loop border construction – the outer rounds use chain arches and slip stitches to create an open, decorative lace-like edging.

Stitches Used

  • Chain stitch (ch) – used for the foundation ring and throughout for chain-space construction
  • Slip stitch (ss) – used to close rounds and attach chain arches
  • Treble crochet (tr) – the primary stitch of the central rounds, creating an open, structured fabric
  • Double crochet (dc) – used in Round 5 and in the final border round to create a denser, more solid fabric
  • Half treble crochet (htr) – used in the final round of the arch border, combined with double crochets to shape the scalloped edging

Pattern Structure

The placemat is worked over seven rounds. Rounds 1 through 4 build the central body using treble crochets and chain spaces, with increases to maintain a flat circular shape. Round 5 consolidates with a plain double crochet round. Rounds 6 and 7 create the decorative arch border: Round 6 forms chain-5 arches attached with slip stitches every four stitches, and Round 7 fills each arch with a sequence of 2 dc, 1 htr, 2 dc to create a neat shell or scallop effect around the entire perimeter.
