Product Description
Pretty Christmas Teddy Bear & Doll Sweater – knitting pattern for Doll Norwegian-style Lopapeysa sweater.
The sweater is designed for a Teddy with a height of 34 – 36 сm [13.4 – 14.2 in], but will fit other toys with the following measurements as well: waist circumference 31 – 34 сm [12.2 –13.4 in], head circumference 31 – 34 сm [12.2 – 13.4 in. This sweater can be used for Waldorf-type 14" dolls with a height of up to 36 сm [14.2 in]. Thanks to the elastic neckline, it is ideally suited for dolls with a large head circumference.
The design of this beautiful seamless sweater was inspired by patterns from traditional Norwegian and Icelandic clothing. The sweater is worked in the round from the bottom up in stockinette sts with an Icelandic Yoke on double pointed needles (DPNs) or a circular needle. The colorwork pattern is included in the written row-by-row instructions.
This Teddy Bear Sweater is knitted in the round on 5 double-pointed needles in stockinette stitch.

What is Being Made
The Teddy Bear Christmas Sweater is a knitted garment designed for teddy bears and dolls measuring 34–36 cm [13.4–14.2 in] in height. This festive sweater fits toys with a waist circumference of 31–34 cm [12.2–13.4 in] and head circumference of 31–34 cm [12.2–13.4 in]. The design is also compatible with Waldorf-type dolls up to 36 cm [14.2 in] tall. The sweater features an elastic neckline that accommodates dolls with larger head circumferences, making it a versatile accessory for various doll and toy collections.
Knitting Techniques
This sweater is knitted in the round using five double-pointed needles, a traditional method that creates seamless, tubular fabric ideal for garments like sweaters and sleeves. Knitting in the round eliminates the need for seaming and produces a continuous, professional finish. The elastic neckline construction ensures a secure, comfortable fit around the doll's neck while maintaining stretch and flexibility.
Stitches Used
The primary stitch used throughout this design is stockinette stitch, the most fundamental and widely recognized knit stitch pattern. Stockinette stitch creates a smooth, uniform fabric with characteristic V-shaped columns on the right side and horizontal bumps on the wrong side. This classic stitch is ideal for creating a polished, professional appearance on doll clothing and provides excellent drape and structure.
Materials Required
This project uses DK weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that works well for detailed doll garments. The color scheme features:
- 30 g [1.06 oz] wine-red yarn for the main sweater body
- 10 g [0.35 oz] white yarn for accent details
- Five double-pointed needles (size not specified in provided content)
The wine-red and white color combination creates a festive Christmas aesthetic, perfect for seasonal doll displays and gift-giving.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to advance beyond basic projects. The intermediate classification reflects the techniques involved in knitting in the round with double-pointed needles and managing color work or stitch patterns, though the use of stockinette stitch keeps the project accessible to experienced beginners.
Pattern Format
The Teddy Bear Christmas Sweater is provided as a downloadable PDF, which includes a photo tutorial created by designer Irina Ferrer Davydova. This format allows crafters to access detailed visual guidance and instructions at their own pace, making it easier to follow the construction steps for this doll-sized garment.
