Taryn Top Knitting Pattern in Adriafil Margarita and Giada – Free Downloadable PDF

The Taryn Top is a stylish, fitted knitted top designed to be worked in two complementary Adriafil yarns: Adriafil Margarita and Adriafil Giada. This free downloadable PDF pattern is suitable for knitters who are comfortable with shaping techniques, including raglan construction, neckline shaping, and ribbed finishing details. The design is available in three sizes — Small, Medium, and Large — making it a versatile wardrobe addition for a range of figures.

What Is Being Made

The Taryn Top is a close-fitting knitted top featuring raglan sleeve shaping, a shaped body with waist decreases and increases, and a rounded neckline. The finished garment is worked in pieces and seamed at the sides, with neat ribbed trims added around the armholes and neckline to give the top a polished, professional finish. The combination of Adriafil Giada for the main body and Adriafil Margarita for the finishing details creates an attractive textural and visual contrast.

Yarns and Materials

  • Adriafil Giada – used for the main body of the top. Giada is an Adriafil yarn in the DK to Aran weight range, contributing the primary fabric of the garment.
  • Adriafil Margarita – used for the ribbed armhole and neckline trims, adding a decorative contrast element to the finishing. Margarita is picked up and worked directly onto the knitted fabric.
  • Needles: Standard knitting needles appropriate for the yarn weight, plus double-pointed needles for working the neckline trim in the round.

Techniques Used

  • Raglan shaping – The top features fully fashioned raglan decreases worked at both edges of the body pieces. Decreases are worked with precision: on the right edge using slip 1, K1, PSSO (pass slipped stitch over), and on the left edge using K2tog, with double decreases (slip 1, K2tog, PSSO and K3tog) used for larger sizes. This creates a clean, angled raglan line.
  • Waist shaping – The body is shaped through a series of decreases and increases. After completing the border, 6 decreases of 1 stitch are worked at both edges alternately every 6 and 8 rows to bring in the waist. When the work reaches 28 cm, 3 increases of 1 stitch at both edges every 14 rows restore the hip width, creating a flattering silhouette.
  • Neckline shaping – At approximately 64–66 cm (depending on size), the centre stitches (8, 10, or 12 stitches for S, M, and L respectively) are bound off and each shoulder is finished separately. Additional bind-offs of 5 stitches twice at the neck edge every 2 rows complete the rounded neckline.
  • Picking up stitches – After seaming, stitches are picked up along the armholes and neckline to work the ribbed trims directly onto the finished fabric, ensuring a neat and integrated edge.
  • Working in the round – Double-pointed needles are used to pick up and work the neckline trim in the round, producing a seamless ribbed collar.
  • Seaming – Side seams are sewn to join the front and back pieces of the top.

Stitches Used

  • Stockinette stitch (stocking stitch) – The main body fabric is worked in the classic knit-on-right-side, purl-on-wrong-side construction typical of fitted tops.
  • 2x2 Ribbing – The armhole and neckline trims are worked in 2x2 rib (knit 2, purl 2), a highly elastic and tidy stitch pattern ideal for edges and borders. The ribbing is worked over 7 rows on the
