What is Being Made

The Tage Cardigan is a knitted cardigan designed by Quail Studio, available in nine sizes to fit chest measurements ranging from 71-76 cm (28-30 inches) up to 152-157 cm (60-62 inches). This intermediate-level knitting project creates a finished garment with actual chest measurements ranging from 108 cm (42¼ inches) to 190 cm (74¾ inches), providing a comfortable fit across multiple size ranges.

Techniques Used

This cardigan employs several key knitting techniques to create its finished structure. The pattern incorporates lace patterning as a primary design element, which adds visual interest and texture throughout the garment. Shaping techniques are used to construct the front neck, utilizing decreases to create the neckline opening. The pattern also uses garter stitch sections, which is formed by knitting every row and creates a textured, reversible fabric. The construction method involves working the back piece first, then shaping and constructing the front sections with careful attention to maintaining pattern continuity throughout.

Materials and Tools

This project requires Cotton DK weight yarn in MODE at Rowan, with yardage requirements of 9, 9, 10, 11, 11, 12, 12, 13, or 13 balls of 50-gram yarn depending on the size being knitted. The pattern was photographed in the colorway Macaroon 011. Knitting needles required include one pair of 4mm (US 6) needles for flat knitting and one 4mm (US 6) circular needle measuring at least 120 cm long for working certain sections. The project also requires five buttons for the cardigan closure. Working tension is established at 18 stitches and 26 rows to 10 cm over the lace pattern using 4mm needles, which is essential for achieving the correct finished garment measurements.
