Achieving the correct row gauge is important; but unlike with most patterns, \u003cem\u003estitch\u003c\/em\u003e gauge need not be exact.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe socks are knit from the toe up. You may use dpns, 2 circulars, or magic loop.
