Stingray Hat

This hat was created after I received a message on Ravelry asking if there were a possibility of turning my stingray toy into a stingray hat, creating an illusion of a stingray sitting on your head.

The hat is knit in the round. Start with a 1x1 rib brim in CC yarn. Then work the underbody of the stingray by increasing the stitches in 10 places. Change to MC, and continue to work short rows to create the two flaps. Then continue to decrease the stitches to finish the body of the stingray. When you decrease to the same amount of stitches as the brim, you will continue to knit the top of the hat, with a crown decrease. To finish your stingray, sew together the two layers along the perimeter of the head, joining round 1 and 12 together. If you think that your stingray needs longer fins, I suggest carefully picking up stitches along the existing fins and adding a few rows to them. It will make the fins longer, and floppier as well.
