Christmas knits don’t get more special than this one – all cute and cuddly, this wrapped-up snowman is ready for happy hugs. Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, this pattern is knitted on single pointed needles (not in the round). The snowman is knitted in a polyester boucle fleecy yarn to make it extra snuggly, and the hat, scarf and carrot nose are knitted in acrylic DK yarns. The hat and scarf incorporate a 2 colour slip stitch pattern. For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, and seaming to finish.
The Snow Snuggly Snowman Toy is a stuffed knitted snowman designed by Amanda Berry. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a three-dimensional toy snowman featuring a body constructed from chunky bouclé yarn, complemented by a knitted hat, scarf, and nose in contrasting colors. The finished toy is suitable for display or play and incorporates traditional snowman design elements including button eyes, an embroidered mouth, and a carrot nose.
This knitting pattern employs fundamental toy-making techniques to create a dimensional, stuffed figure. The snowman body is knitted in the round or as flat pieces that are seamed together, then filled with toy stuffing to create volume and shape. The pattern uses seaming techniques to join knitted pieces, creating a cohesive three-dimensional form. Additional embellishment techniques include embroidery for the mouth detail and button attachment for the eyes. The hat and scarf are knitted separately and attached to the main body, allowing for modular construction and design flexibility.
While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided pattern information, the intermediate difficulty level suggests the pattern incorporates fundamental knitting stitches commonly used in toy construction. These typically include basic stitches suitable for creating smooth, even fabric in both chunky and DK yarn weights. The embroidery work for the mouth likely uses simple backstitch or running stitch techniques in black DK yarn.
Yarn for the Snowman Body: White chunky bouclé yarn (bulky/12 ply weight) is the primary material. The pattern specifically recommends fleecy bouclé faux fur fancy yarn such as Sirdar Snuggly Snowflake Chunky, which is 100% polyester. Approximately 75 grams of this yarn is sufficient to complete the body.
Yarn for Accessories: White, Green, and Orange DK yarns (double knitting/light worsted/8 ply weight) are used for the hat, scarf, and nose. The pattern recommends 100% acrylic DK yarn such as Deramores Studio Anti-Pilling DK or similar options. Approximately 50 grams each of the white, green, and orange DK yarns will be needed.
Additional Materials: The pattern requires a minimum 200-gram bag of toy filling (polyester fiberfill) with a minimum length of 20 centimeters. Two 10-millimeter domed black buttons serve as the eyes. Black DK yarn, approximately 60 centimeters in length, is needed for embroidering the mouth details. A 6-centimeter pompom maker is included in the notions list for creating decorative elements.
The multiple needle sizes accommodate the different yarn weights used throughout the project: the 5mm needles are used with the chunky bouclé yarn for the body, while the smaller needle sizes work with the DK-weight yarns for the hat, scarf, and nose.
