Snidget Hat by Wanded Knit and Crochet
Project Overview
The Snidget Hat is an intermediate-level knitted hat inspired by the Golden Snidget from magical lore. This downloadable knitting pattern creates a finished hat measuring approximately 9 inches wide by 9.25 inches tall, making it a classic cap-style design suitable for various head sizes with appropriate yarn weight adjustments.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a knitted hat with a structured crown and fitted design. The Snidget Hat incorporates colorwork elements, as indicated by the inclusion of contrast color (CC) yardage requirements, suggesting the pattern includes intarsia or stranded colorwork detailing that references the Golden Snidget theme.
Yarn Materials and Weight Options
The Snidget Hat pattern accommodates multiple yarn weights to suit different preferences and finished fabric characteristics:
- Bulky Weight Yarn: Approximately 95-100 yards for the main color
- Light Bulky/Aran Weight Yarn: Approximately 110-115 yards for the main color
- Contrast Color (Bulky): 12-14 yards
- Contrast Color (Light Bulky/Aran): 15-17 yards
The pattern was tested using Explorer Knits Carlsbad Worsted yarn, providing a reference for yarn quality and characteristics suitable for this design.
Needles and Tools
The pattern calls for US 11 needles, which is the standard size for working with bulky and aran-weight yarns. The specific needle type (straight, circular, or double-pointed) and any additional tools required are detailed within the full pattern instructions.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
As an intermediate-level pattern, the Snidget Hat employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for crafters with basic knitting experience. The pattern incorporates colorwork methods, utilizing contrast color yardage to create the Golden Snidget visual elements. Knitters should be comfortable with reading knitting patterns, managing multiple yarn colors, and executing standard knitting stitches to successfully complete this project.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate, this pattern is designed for knitters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to tackle colorwork and more complex pattern instructions. The intermediate skill level suggests the pattern may include techniques such as stranded colorwork, shaping through increases and decreases, or other construction methods beyond absolute beginner patterns.
Pattern Format
The Snidget Hat is available as a downloadable PDF pattern from Wanded Knit and Crochet, designed by Jenny Noto. The digital format allows immediate access to complete instructions and any accompanying charts or visual guides needed to complete the project.
