Smoking Hot Blanket by Nonnys Knits
Project Overview
The Smoking Hot Blanket is a crochet wordghan designed by Sue L. West of Nonnys Knits Ltd. A wordghan is a specialized blanket or throw that incorporates text or words as a central design element, created entirely through crochet stitchwork. This pattern represents the ninth official wordghan design from Nonnys Knits Ltd and is distinguished by its snarky, punchy aesthetic, offering a departure from traditional wordghan themes such as baby, love, prayer, or pet-themed designs.
Craft and Techniques
This project is worked entirely in crochet, making it suitable for crafters with intermediate skill level. The wordghan technique requires working with a combination of standard crochet stitches to build both the background fabric and the text elements that form the design. The pattern incorporates both written instructions and a counted stitch graph, providing dual guidance methods for executing the design accurately. The counted stitch approach allows crafters to follow a visual grid representation of the pattern, which is particularly helpful for maintaining consistency in the text and design elements throughout the blanket.
Pattern Format and Instructions
The Smoking Hot Blanket pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF document. The designer has prioritized clarity and accessibility in the pattern writing, structuring the instructions in a manner suitable for both experienced wordghan crafters and those attempting this type of project for the first time. The pattern includes foundational explanations alongside the main instructions, allowing newcomers to understand the basics while permitting experienced crafters to skip introductory sections as needed.
Materials
This blanket pattern is designed to work with yarn in the following weights: DK, worsted, and aran. These yarn weight options provide flexibility in the final blanket size and drape, allowing crafters to choose based on their preferred finished dimensions and yarn availability. Crochet hooks appropriate to the selected yarn weight will be required to complete the project.
