Product Description
Sister’s Yoke is a top down seamless colorwork yoke with beads knit, super fun to knit. Dedicated to my sister Carolina, which is always thankful of my knitting gifts.
CONSTRUCTION NOTES This yoke is worked from the top down seamless. The body and sleeves are also knitted on the round. Short rows are worked at the top neck in the back for a better fit.

What is Being Made
Sister's Yoke is a top-down seamless colorwork yoke sweater designed by Marcela Chang. This knitted garment features a decorative yoke worked from the neckline downward, incorporating colorwork and beadwork elements. The pattern is available in six sizes, ranging from 36 inches to 60 inches bust circumference, making it suitable for a range of body measurements from approximately 93 cm to 152.5 cm.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
This sweater employs a top-down seamless construction, which allows knitters to try on the garment as they work and adjust length to personal preference. The defining feature is the colorwork yoke, which is worked in the round from the top of the sweater downward. The yoke incorporates beads knit into the fabric, adding texture and visual interest to the colorwork pattern. This technique combines traditional stranded colorwork with bead embellishment, creating a decorative focal point at the upper portion of the garment.
Stitches and Stitch Techniques
The pattern utilizes fundamental knitting stitches worked in the round. The colorwork yoke employs stranded colorwork (also called Fair Isle), where two colors are carried across rows to create the pattern. Beads are knit directly into the fabric during the colorwork section, requiring knitters to incorporate beads as they work stitches. The garment is worked seamlessly using circular needles, eliminating the need for seaming after completion. This intermediate-level pattern requires familiarity with working in the round, managing multiple colors, and integrating beads into knit stitches.
Yarn and Materials
Sister's Yoke is designed to be knitted with 4-ply yarn weight (also known as fingering or sport weight), creating a lightweight, drapable fabric suitable for a sweater. The pattern recommends specific yarns:
- Main Color (MC): Madelintosh Tosh Merino Light in 100% merino wool, requiring 3 to 4 skeins depending on size (approximately 420 yards per 100 grams). The sample is knitted in the color Arctic Fox.
- Contrast Color (C1): Manos del Uruguay Fino in a wool and silk blend (70% wool, 30% silk), requiring 1 to 2 skeins depending on size (approximately 490 yards per 100 grams). The sample is knitted in the color Fleet.
Needles and Notions
The pattern requires US 3 (2.5 mm) circular needles for working the yoke and body in the round. Additional notions include stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and construction points, and a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends after completion. The beads used in the colorwork are integrated during knitting rather than applied afterward.
Difficulty Level
Sister's Yoke is classified as an intermediate-level pattern. Knitters should be comfortable with circular needle techniques, working in the round, reading colorwork charts, and managing multiple yarn colors simultaneously. The addition of beads knit into the fabric adds complexity beyond basic colorwork, making this pattern suitable for knitters with some experience in stranded colorwork techniques.
