Product Description
Sirimiri is Spanish for ‘light rain’. Droplets made with single decreases, double decreases, and yarnovers fall from above in this all-over lace shawl. Knit in a summery wool/linen blend, the triangle-shaped shawl makes a perfect light-weight accessory.
The shawl pattern comes in two sizes — written for one or two skeins of light fingering-weight yarn — along with instructions for adjusting the shawl size based on available yardage. The shawl is finished with an elastic bind-off with optional beads.
Both written and charted instructions are provided for the lace pattern that takes a fair bit of concentration; the ability to read your knitting is recommended. The pattern is written with both metric and US terminology.
Gauge: 18 sts × 23 rows = 10 cm / 4" in the lace pattern, blocked

Sirimiri Lace Shawl by Susanna Winter
What Is Being Made
Sirimiri is an all-over lace triangle shawl inspired by the Spanish word for light rain. The design features droplets created through strategic decreases and yarnovers that cascade across the fabric, making it an elegant lightweight accessory perfect for summer wear. The shawl is available in two adjustable sizes, accommodating either one or two skeins of fingering-weight yarn, with flexibility to customize dimensions based on available yardage.
Knitting Techniques
This advanced knitting project employs sophisticated lace-making techniques that require concentration and the ability to read your knitting. The pattern utilizes both written and charted instructions, allowing knitters to choose their preferred method for following the complex stitch sequences. The shawl begins with a garter-tab cast-on and uses a 6+1 provisional cast-on method, which are foundational techniques for constructing triangle shawls from the top down. The pattern is finished with an elastic bind-off, with optional beading for added embellishment.
Stitches Used
- Single decreases — used to create the falling droplet motifs throughout the lace pattern
- Double decreases — employed for more pronounced shaping and textural definition in the lace design
- Yarnovers — create the openwork characteristic of the all-over lace pattern
- Garter stitch — used in the tab cast-on foundation
Materials and Yarn Weight
Sirimiri is designed for 3-ply and 4-ply light fingering-weight yarn, with the pattern written for a wool and linen blend that provides breathability and structure ideal for a summery shawl. The pattern includes both metric and US terminology, accommodating international knitters. Knitters will need appropriate needles for fingering-weight yarn and optional beads for the decorative bind-off finish.
Pattern Format and Difficulty
This is an advanced difficulty pattern presented as a downloadable PDF. The comprehensive instructions include both written and charted formats for the lace pattern, making it accessible to knitters with varying preferences for pattern reading. The adjustable sizing and detailed finishing instructions make this a complete resource for creating a professional-quality lace shawl.
