What is Being Made

The Simple Cardigan is a baby cardigan designed as a quick-to-knit project suitable for both beginning knitters and experienced crafters. The garment is constructed using a top-down approach, knit flat for the body with minimal seaming required.

Construction Method and Techniques

This cardigan employs a top-down construction technique, which allows knitters to try on the garment as they work and easily adjust the fit. The body is knit flat, meaning it is worked back and forth on straight needles rather than in the round, creating a traditional two-piece construction with one small seam on each arm.

The sleeves are worked separately after the body is completed. Knitters have the option to work sleeves either flat on straight needles or in the round on double-pointed needles (dpns), providing flexibility based on personal preference or skill level. When working sleeves in the round, 39 stitches are placed on dpns and joined with a new length of yarn, leaving an 8-10 inch tail to close the gap under the arm after completion.
