The blanket is available in four sizes to accommodate different needs: a small stroller or receiving blanket measuring 29" x 32", a slightly larger receiving size at 32" x 34", a toddler blanket at 39" x 39.5", and a larger option at 41" x 50". The design balances decorative lace edging with a clean, understated center, making it both visually appealing and practical for nurseries and playtime.

Knitting Techniques and Construction

This intermediate-level knitting project uses a bottom-up construction method, beginning with the lace border and progressing upward through the body of the blanket. The blanket is worked on circular needles in the round or flat, depending on the knitter's preference, with the construction sequence as follows: the initial lace border is cast on and worked first, followed by the main body featuring a reverse stockinette center section, and finally completed with the top border. The two largest sizes feature wider borders proportionally, adding extra visual interest and frame to the larger blankets. Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Silva Baby Blanket is knitted using The Plucky Knitter Sweater Aran yarn, a premium blend consisting of 95% merino wool and 5% nylon. This fiber composition provides softness and breathability ideal for baby items, while the nylon content adds durability and elasticity to withstand frequent washing and use. The yarn is worked at an aran weight (also called worsted weight), which is a medium-weight yarn suitable for creating blankets with good drape and structure. Yardage requirements vary by size: the smallest blanket requires 5 skeins (approximately 925 yards), the 32" x 34" size needs 6 skeins, the 39" x 39.5" size requires 8 skeins, and the largest 41" x 50" blanket uses 9 skeins. The sample shown in the pattern is worked in the "Like Sands Through an Hourglass" colorway, though any aran or worsted weight yarn of similar fiber content and yardage can be substituted. Knitting is worked on US 7 (4.5mm) circular needles measuring 32 inches or longer, or needles adjusted to achieve the correct gauge of 17 stitches and 24 rows per 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
