Sideways Cabled Hat

This pattern is packed with techniques not usually found in a hat, including short rows, grafting and picking up stitches.

For knitters wanting to use this pattern as a learning opportunity, the hat pattern is available as a [CraftEDU class][1], as well, featuring almost an hour and half of photo and video tutorials, with voice over narration that includes tips and options for every technique: sizing, working cables, reading charts, working short rows, and reading your knitting when working the pattern. The grafting portion of the class includes photos and video tutorials for each step of the process. Also included in the class is a tutorial on designing with a graft in mind.

Hat construction: A curved cabled strip is knit flat, using short rows (no wraps to pick up!), and then grafted together with no interruption in the cable pattern. Stitches are picked up for the crown and then decreases finish off the hat.
