Product Description

September Morn is my favorite kind of knit. A classic sweater with a few surprises that makes a great wardrobe staple. Ribs and texture give the sweater a little personality, but the shape is simple and flattering and works with almost any outfit.

The combination of stockinettte with a few details makes for a fun knit, soothing and easy to work, with a few spots that keep you thinking. Top down construction makes for easy modifications and there are instructions in the pattern on how to do so. You can alter the depth or width of the cowl, change the fit in the arms or body or modify the length for any length that is most flattering on you. A subtly variegated worsted merino adds depth to the stockinette and looks great in both the texture and the ribs.

The Shalimar Yarns, Enzo, adds a little delicacy to the sweater, making it a perfect lightweight layering piece. It's soft and lightweight, but warm and cozy at the same time. Suggested substitute yarns are below. Always check your gauge.

September Morn Pullover by BabyCocktails

What is Being Made

September Morn is a classic pullover sweater designed by Thea Colman of BabyCocktails. This top-down, seamless knit garment functions as a versatile wardrobe staple suitable for pairing with nearly any outfit. The design balances simplicity in its overall silhouette with textural interest through strategic ribbing and stitch pattern work.

Construction Method

This pullover is worked from the top down in one continuous piece, eliminating the need for seaming. The seamless construction method allows for easy adjustments during knitting and creates a comfortable, uninterrupted fit. The raglan shaping is integrated throughout the yoke, with decorative ribs running along the raglan seams that provide both visual interest and an engaging knitting experience.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

  • Stockinette stitch forms the primary fabric throughout the body and sleeves
  • Ribbing is featured in multiple locations: the generous cowl neckline, the raglan seams, and additional textural elements that define the sweater's personality
  • The combination of smooth stockinette with structured ribs creates visual contrast and textural depth

Yarn and Materials

September Morn is designed for Shalimar Yarns Enzo Worsted in the colorway Silver Sage. This subtly variegated worsted-weight merino yarn adds gentle visual interest to the stockinette sections while remaining sophisticated in the ribbed areas. Yardage requirements range from 1050 yards for the smallest size to 1950 yards for the largest size, with the yarn provided in 235-yard skeins.

Needles required include US #7 (4.5 mm) needles for the main fabric and US #8 (5 mm) needles (one size up) for the cowl ribbing. Long circular needles are recommended for working the body, while double-pointed needles or shorter circular needles are suggested for the sleeve cap. Additional notions include a darning needle for finishing, stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and shaping points, and waste yarn or stitch holders for managing live stitches.

Cowl Neckline

The cowl is generously proportioned but easily customizable, allowing knitters to adjust the depth according to personal preference. This flexible design element means the neckline can be modified during knitting without affecting the rest of the garment.

Difficulty Level

Rated as intermediate, September Morn is suitable for knitters with foundational skills in seamless top-down construction, raglan shaping, and basic stitch patterns. The straightforward silhouette and engaging ribbed sections make this an accessible project for developing knitters seeking a satisfying, wearable result.

Yarn Weight Specifications

This design accommodates both aran and worsted weight yarns, providing flexibility in yarn selection while maintaining the intended drape and fit of the finished garment.
