Product Description
Season’s Change is the perfect in-between seasons cardigan to wear. It is warm enough to wear in cooler weather such as spring or fall without being too heavy. It is constructed as a rectangle with collar and modern 3/4 wide sleeves with cuffs. The body features simple stitches and chic eyelet rows to accentuate the simple style.
The cardigan is designed as one-piece, with collar and sleeves crocheted together as part of the fronts, therefore requiring minimal seams.
Pattern is designed using worsted acrylic yarns, such as Sprightly Acrylic Worsted approx. 1500 - 2100 yards, or 8 - 11 balls, with crochet hook J/10/6.00 mm and I/9/5.50 mm.

What is Being Made
The Season's Change Cardigan is a versatile, easy-to-intermediate crochet cardigan designed by Nicole Wang. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a classic cardigan available in four finished bust sizes: Small/Medium (44"), Medium/Large (48"), Large/Extra Large (52"), and Extra Large/2X Large (56"), with a consistent length of 28" across all sizes. The cardigan is constructed with a structured, wearable design suitable for layering across seasons.
Construction Technique
The Season's Change Cardigan is worked using a practical bottom-up construction method. The body—consisting of the back panel and two front panels—is crocheted separately before assembly. Once the body sections are complete, the sleeves and collar are worked as integrated components of the front pieces. The finished pieces are then sewn together to create the final garment. This modular approach allows crafters to manage the project in manageable sections and provides flexibility during the construction process.
Stitches Used
This pattern employs fundamental crochet stitches accessible to beginner and intermediate crafters. The primary stitch used throughout the cardigan is the double crochet (dc), which forms the main fabric and creates the garment's structure and drape. Single crochet (sc) stitches are incorporated for shaping and finishing details. Chain stitches (ch) are used to establish foundation rows and create stitch counts, while slip stitches (sl st) join rounds and secure sections together. The pattern also includes techniques for skipping stitches (sk) to create shaping and pattern variations.
Pattern Details and Gauge
The pattern is written for the smallest size with additional measurements for larger sizes provided in parentheses throughout the instructions. Gauge is an essential element for achieving the correct finished measurements: 12 double crochets and 9 rows in pattern using the larger hook should measure 4 inches (10 cm). Maintaining accurate gauge ensures the cardigan will fit as designed across all size options.
Materials Required
The Season's Change Cardigan is worked in Lion Brand Heartland Worsted Yarn, an aran-weight yarn. Yardage requirements scale with size: the Small/Medium requires 6 skeins (approximately 1500 yards), Medium/Large requires 7 skeins (approximately 1750 yards), Large/Extra Large requires 8 skeins (approximately 1900 yards), and Extra Large/2X Large requires 9 skeins (approximately 2100 yards).
Two crochet hooks are needed for this project: a size J/10/6.00 mm hook (larger hook, used for the main pattern) and a size I/9/5.50 mm hook (smaller hook, likely used for ribbing, edging, or gauge adjustments). Additional supplies include stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and shaping points, and a yarn needle for weaving in ends and sewing the cardigan pieces together.
Skill Level and Accessibility
Rated as Easy/Intermediate, the Season's Change Cardigan is an approachable project for crocheters with some foundational experience. The use of basic stitches, straightforward construction method, and clear pattern formatting make this design accessible while providing a satisfying, wearable finished garment. The modular construction—working pieces separately before assembly—allows crafters to focus on one section at a time, making the overall project less overwhelming.
