Product Description
The Scandi Christmas Jumper Tea Cosy Knitting Pattern is a lovely wintery tea cosy design with a Scandinavian flavour.
Using both Fair Isle and intarsia, the picture on this tea cosy is worked from knitting charts. There is a red rickrack motif and above that is a row of Christmas trees. Further up are leaping reindeers that are stood on their back legs over a Christmas present, and above is a delicate snowflake. Wonderfully Christmassy and the limited colour pallet give the cosy a Scandinavian feel.
To make the cosy look like a jumper the cosy has a turtle neck that rolls down and back onto itself. And the teapot handle and spout stick out like arms.
The tea cosy is all knitted on 4mm needles, so to keep the teapot really hot the tea cosy has a knitted lining.
It's perfect for people who love a Christmas jumper!
The pattern will be available for digital download as soon as you have completed purchase, so you could start knitting, very soon!
Scandi Christmas Jumper Tea Cosy
What is Being Made
This is a knitted tea cosy designed by TeaCosyFolk, sized to fit a 2-pint teapot or teapots that hold 6 to 8 cups. The design features a Scandinavian Christmas theme with a festive color palette and decorative stocking stitch sections combined with ribbed detailing.
Craft and Primary Technique
This project is created using knitting as the primary craft method. The pattern is suitable for knitters with intermediate skill level, making it an accessible project for those with some foundational knitting experience who are ready to tackle shaping techniques and color changes.
Stitches Used
- Increases (Inc1) - Used extensively in the initial shaping rows to expand the stitch count from 7 stitches to 42 stitches, creating the rounded base and body of the cosy
- Stocking Stitch - The primary stitch pattern used for the main body, worked over 39 rows after the initial increase sections to create a smooth, classic knitted fabric
- Ribbing (K1, P1 and K2, P2) - Used for textured detail sections, including a K1, P1 rib repeat at Row 49 and a K2, P2 rib pattern in the upper section, adding elasticity and visual interest
- Knit and Purl stitches - Fundamental stitches forming the foundation of all pattern sections
Materials and Tools
This pattern requires DK weight yarn in at least two colors: White for the main body and Cornish Blue for the upper contrast section. Knitting needles in 4.00mm size are used throughout the project. The recommended tension is 22 stitches and 28 rows to measure 10x10cm using 4.00mm needles with DK yarn in stocking stitch, ensuring the finished cosy achieves the correct fit.
Pattern Structure and Construction
The tea cosy is constructed in a single main piece that begins with a small cast-on of 7 stitches and uses strategic increases to shape the cosy. The pattern progresses through several distinct sections: an increase section that builds the foundation, a long stocking stitch body for the main coverage, a color change to introduce the Cornish Blue, additional shaping with increases, and ribbed sections for textured detail and structure. The pattern includes alternating purl rows between increase rows to maintain shaping integrity, and finishes with knit and purl rows for a neat edge.
