Sakura Small Laundry Bag by K.A.M.E. Crochet
Project Overview
The Sakura Small Laundry Bag is a practical crochet storage solution designed by Krisztina Anna Matejcsok-Edomer of K.A.M.E. Crochet. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a compact laundry bag with a single size capacity to hold approximately 10 scrubbies, making it an ideal accessory for organizing small items in the home or while traveling.
What Is Being Made
This project produces a small laundry or storage bag suitable for holding delicate items, scrubbies, or other small household goods. The finished bag serves both functional and decorative purposes, with a design inspired by sakura (cherry blossom) aesthetics that adds visual appeal to any room or storage space.
Craft and Technique
The Sakura Small Laundry Bag is created using the crochet technique, classified as an Easy/Intermediate difficulty level project. This makes it accessible to crocheters with some foundational experience while still offering interesting stitch work and construction methods to develop skills further. The pattern employs a structured approach using fundamental and specialized crochet techniques to achieve its finished form.
Stitches and Techniques Used
- Magic Ring (MR) — A foundational technique for starting projects in the round, creating a tight center point
- Chain (CH) — The basic foundation stitch used throughout the pattern for creating spaces and structure
- Single Crochet (SC) — A fundamental stitch providing tight, dense fabric construction
- Single Crochet Back Loop Only (SCBLO) — A variation that creates textured ridges by working through only the back loop of stitches
- Double Crochet (DC) — A taller stitch used for creating lighter, more open sections of the fabric
- Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) — An advanced technique that works around the post of stitches from the previous row, creating dimensional texture and visual interest
- "V" Stitch — A decorative stitch combination that creates an open, lacy appearance typical of sakura-inspired designs
- Slip Stitch (SLST) — Used for joining rounds and connecting sections seamlessly
- Skip (SK) — A technique for creating shaping and stitch spacing throughout the pattern
Materials Required
This project calls for minimal materials, making it an economical and quick crochet undertaking. The pattern requires approximately 60-70 meters (30-35 grams) of 100% cotton DK weight yarn. The designer used Oxford Yarns Eco Cotton in white for the original sample, though crafters may substitute with other DK weight cotton yarns in their preferred colors. A 4mm (size G) crochet hook is needed to work with the DK weight yarn at the appropriate tension. Additional supplies include a yarn needle for weaving in ends and scissors for finishing.
Pattern Format and Use
The Sakura Small Laundry Bag is available as a downloadable PDF pattern from K.A.M.E. Crochet. This format allows crafters to access the complete instructions digitally and print them as needed. The pattern is designed for personal and non-commercial use. Finished products may be sold with credit given to K.A.M.E. Crochet when possible, supporting the independent designer's work and reputation within the crochet community.
