Rocha Jumper Knitting Pattern by Quail Studio – Rowan Kidsilk Haze and Kid Classic
The Rocha Jumper (RM007-00002-EN) is a beautifully crafted knitting pattern by Quail Studio, published as a downloadable PDF. The pattern covers two distinct designs: a classic sweater with sleeves and a sleeveless sweater (vest). Both garments are worked in a luxurious combination of Rowan Kidsilk Haze (a lace-weight yarn) and Rowan Kid Classic (an aran-weight yarn), held together to create a fabric with beautiful halo and warmth. This is an ideal project for beginner knitters looking to build confidence while working with premium yarns.
Design One: Rocha Sweater with Sleeves
The sleeved version of the Rocha Jumper is a relaxed, wearable pullover designed to suit a wide range of bust sizes, from 71–76 cm (28–30 in) up to 152–157 cm (60–62 in), with an actual garment bust measurement ranging from 108 cm to 190 cm, offering a generous, comfortable fit across nine sizes.
Yarn and Colourway
- Yarn A: Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Drab (shade 611) – a 25 g lace-weight yarn with a signature mohair halo
- Yarn B: Rowan Kid Classic in Clover (shade 895) – a 50 g aran-weight yarn providing structure and body
- Both yarns are worked together throughout to create a soft, airy, yet substantial fabric
- Quantities range from 7 balls of Kidsilk Haze and 11 balls of Kid Classic (smallest size) up to 10 balls and 15 balls respectively (largest size)
Construction and Shaping
The sweater is worked in separate pieces – back, front, and sleeves – and seamed together. The back features shoulder and back neck shaping, with stitches cast off in stages and a central group of stitches placed on a stitch holder to be picked up later for the collar. The front is shaped with a front neck shaping sequence, beginning several rows before the shoulder shaping, with decreases worked at the neck edge on consecutive and then alternate rows to create a smooth, rounded neckline. A collar is constructed by picking up held stitches from both front and back neck holders.
Techniques Used
- Shoulder shaping via stepped cast-off rows on right-side and wrong-side rows
- Neck shaping with decreases worked on consecutive rows followed by alternate rows
- Working each side of the neck separately after dividing for the neck opening
- Use of stitch holders to hold live stitches for the collar
- Collar construction using a circular needle to pick up and work held stitches in the round or flat
Stitches Used
- Knit stitch (K) – the primary stitch used throughout the body and sleeves
- Cast off in pattern for shoulder and neck shaping
- Decrease stitches at neck edges for front neck shaping
Design Two: Rocha Sleeveless Sweater (Vest)
The sleeveless version of the Rocha design offers the same relaxed silhouette and generous sizing range as the sleeved sweater, but with an armhole opening in place of set-in or drop-shoulder sleeves. It is equally suited to beginner knitters and makes for a versatile layering piece.
Yarn and Colourway
- Yarn A: Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Bark (shade 674) – a warm, earthy tone in the signature lace-weight moh
