Reversible Octopus Amigurumi by Natalia Kononenko
What is Being Made
This is a reversible octopus amigurumi toy designed by Natalia Kononenko. The pattern creates a plush, stuffed crochet octopus that features a reversible design, allowing the toy to display two different looks. The octopus is constructed as a single integrated piece, with the body and tentacles worked together to minimize finishing work and sewing requirements.
Craft and Primary Technique
This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. The pattern is classified as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with some experience beyond basic skills. The design emphasizes efficiency in construction by eliminating the need for extensive seaming, as the body and tentacles are crocheted as one continuous piece rather than being assembled from separate components.
Stitches and Construction Methods
The pattern is worked in continuous spiral rounds, meaning you do not join rounds as you progress. Instead, a stitch marker or piece of yarn is used to mark the beginning of each round. The pattern includes specialized stitch techniques:
- BLO (Back Loop Only) – Instructions where only the back loop of a stitch is worked, creating textured effects
- FLO (Front Loop Only) – Instructions where only the front loop of a stitch is worked for specific design details
- Standard under-loop crochet – Working under both loops of the stitch in most rows unless otherwise noted
- Needle join – Used to fasten off the work at completion
Materials
This pattern uses worsted weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that works up quickly and creates a sturdy, durable finished toy. The pattern requires a crochet hook appropriate for worsted weight yarn, though the specific hook size is detailed within the full pattern instructions.
Pattern Format
This is a downloadable PDF pattern provided by independent designer Natalia Kononenko through AmigurumiPatternsPDF. The pattern is intended for personal use only and includes detailed instructions to guide crocheters through the reversible octopus construction process.
