Reindeer Door Hanger by Lisa Kingsley
What Is Being Made
This is a crocheted reindeer door hanger designed by Lisa Kingsley. The finished reindeer measures approximately 12 inches tall, making it an ideal decorative piece for holiday door displays. The pattern creates a three-dimensional crocheted figure suitable for hanging on doors or displaying seasonally.
Craft and Technique Overview
This is a crochet project classified at an intermediate difficulty level. The pattern uses continuous spiral construction rather than traditional joined rounds, which creates a seamless appearance in the finished piece. Crocheters will work in the round using stitch markers to track the beginning of each round and advance the marker as rounds are completed.
The design incorporates color changes throughout the construction. Color transitions are made by switching to the new yarn color during the final yarn over of the last stitch worked in the previous color, creating clean color shifts in the finished reindeer.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches suitable for amigurumi-style construction:
- Single crochet (sc) - the primary stitch used throughout the pattern
- Increases (2sc) - worked by crocheting 2 single crochet stitches into one stitch to expand the piece
- Decreases (sc2tog and sc3tog) - techniques for reducing stitches by turning 2 or 3 stitches into one, used for shaping
- Slip stitch (sl st) - used for joining and finishing
- Back loop only (BLO) - working through only the back loop of stitches for textural variation
- Chain stitches (ch1) - used as directional guides; chain 1 at the beginning of rows does not count as a stitch unless otherwise specified in the pattern
Materials and Yarn Weight
This project is worked with aran weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that creates a sturdy, well-defined finished piece suitable for a dimensional door hanger. The pattern is written in standard US crochet terminology. While specific yarn quantities and crochet hook sizes are referenced in the complete pattern document, crocheters will need to prepare their materials before beginning.

This is a downloadable PDF pattern provided by independent designer Lisa Kingsley. The pattern spans 10 pages and includes detailed written instructions.
