Pacific Rest Lace Tee-Shirt by Conexus Knits

Garment Overview

The Pacific Rest Lace Tee-Shirt is a knitted top designed by Janine Whale of Conexus Designs, inspired by the Pacific Ocean bordering Eastern New Zealand. This intermediate-level knitting project combines lace detailing with comfortable everyday wearability, making it an ideal choice for warm weather layering and sophisticated casual styling.

Design Features

This tee-shirt offers versatile styling options with multiple construction choices. The garment features a lace panel on the front below the neckline, while the back showcases all-over lace patterning for visual interest and breathability. Knitters can choose between short sleeve or sleeveless versions, and select either standard or cropped length options to suit personal preference and body proportions.

The standard length version sits 15 centimeters (6 inches) below the natural waist with a narrow rib finish, while the cropped length sits 8 centimeters (3.25 inches) below the natural waist and features a more generous 8-centimeter (3.25 inches) ribbed band. The garment is designed with 10-20 centimeters (4-8 inches) of positive ease for comfortable movement and a relaxed fit.

Yarn and Materials

Pacific Rest is worked in fingering-weight yarn—a lighter 4-ply weight that creates delicate lace with excellent stitch definition. The recommended yarn is a luxurious blend of alpaca, linen, and silk fibers. This fiber combination offers exceptional qualities for warm-weather wear: the alpaca and silk provide softness and sheen, while the linen contributes structure and breathability. The blend creates beautiful drape essential for showcasing lace patterns and provides a soothing, cooling sensation against sun-exposed skin.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

This intermediate-level project employs several key knitting techniques. Lace knitting forms the primary decorative element, requiring familiarity with yarn overs and decreases to create the openwork patterns featured on the front panel and throughout the back. The garment uses provisional cast-on construction, a technique that allows for seamless joining and flexible finishing options.

Ribbed edgings provide structure and elasticity at the waistline and armholes, with the choice between narrow ribs on the standard length and generous ribs on the cropped version. The construction method involves knitting the front lace panel first, followed by the right front and right back shoulder sections, demonstrating a thoughtful construction sequence that builds the garment systematically.

Skill Level and Suitability

Rated as an intermediate knitting project, Pacific Rest requires comfort with lace knitting techniques, understanding of garment shaping, and familiarity with seaming or joining methods. The pattern provides clear guidance for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to explore more complex stitch patterns and garment construction.
