Product Description
This beanie is a copy of one I started at Christmas for my best friend. I knitted it while sitting next to the fireplace enjoying that feeling of a warm fire when the air is cold.
The very first time I knit this beanie it was done using Whale’s Road from Malabrigo. I wanted to be able to show off the colors without it looks so flat. Or having a color change seem abrupt.
Since coming up with this pattern I’ve knitted it for 4 different people and have recieved several compliments. I’ve knit this particular pattern in several Malabrigo colors. Hollyhock is a great option as well as Syrah Grapes. For a more masculine color I can recommend Cielo Y Tierra (which I used for my dad).
This beanie knits up fairly quick and can be completed in a day if you’re really committed or a fast knitter.
This pattern is written for two sizes. Either a women’s medium or a men’s medium.

What Is Being Made
The Original Fireside Beanie is a knitted winter hat designed by KnitWit Design Co. This beanie is inspired by a project the designer created while enjoying time by a fireplace, crafted as a gift for a close friend. The pattern has since been knitted in multiple colorways and is designed to showcase beautiful yarn color variations while maintaining visual interest and depth throughout the finished garment.
Craft and Technique Overview
This is a knitting project classified at an intermediate difficulty level. The beanie is constructed using circular knitting techniques, which creates a seamless, tubular fabric ideal for hat construction. The pattern employs stitch techniques that prevent the finished piece from appearing flat or dull, allowing variegated and multi-colored yarns to display their full visual potential. The beanie knits up relatively quickly and can be completed in a single day with dedicated knitting time.
Stitches and Stitch Techniques
While specific stitch names are not detailed in the pattern notes, the beanie utilizes knit stitches worked in the round. The construction method emphasizes stitch patterns that create texture and visual interest, preventing a flat appearance even when worked in solid or variegated yarns. The pattern is compatible with a variety of yarn colors, indicating that the stitch structure itself provides sufficient visual complexity.

Gauge

Yarn Considerations
The designer specifically recommends Malabrigo Rios, a worsted-weight yarn known for its vibrant color variations and soft feel. The pattern has been tested successfully across multiple Malabrigo Rios colorways, with the designer noting that every color option in this yarn line works beautifully with the stitch pattern. The beanie's stitch construction is designed to showcase the natural color changes and variations present in quality variegated or multi-colored yarns without the result appearing dull or one-dimensional.
