Product Description

Indulge in the ultimate knitting comfort that is knitted pants! These pants are so comfy, cozy, and cute that you won’t want to take them off. Knitted in this super fun color changing yarn, they will add a splash of color to you legs and give life to your loungewear collection, and you! :)

These pants are knitted as one piece in the round from the top down, with the waistband knit using the smallest (3mm) needle to ensure it is snug on your waist. The waistband is then folded and joined with the option to insert elastic or add eyelets for a drawstring. The pants are then knitted until the crotch where the legs are separated and knit one at a time. The length of each leg and ribbed cuff is totally custom to you, and luckily you can try them on as you go to ensure they are the perfect fit. These pants have a slender but relaxed fit, and if you desire for them to fit more like leggings, you can just choose a size down!

Ombre All Day Pants Knitting Pattern by Lauren Riker

What Is Being Made

The Ombre All Day Pants is a downloadable knitting pattern for a pair of fitted trousers designed by Lauren Riker. This intermediate-level project creates wearable pants suitable for everyday wear, with a fitted silhouette that accommodates a range of sizes from 24 inches to 44 inches in waist measurement. The pattern includes detailed sizing information for both waist and hip measurements, making it accessible for various body types.

Craft and Techniques

This pattern is designed for knitting and utilizes circular needle and double-pointed needle (dpn) techniques throughout construction. The pants are worked primarily in the round using circular needles, which is a common approach for creating seamless or minimal-seam garments. The pattern incorporates an I-cord drawstring, which is created using two double-pointed needles and adds both functional and decorative elements to the waistband. The intermediate difficulty level indicates that knitters should have experience with techniques beyond basic stockinette stitch and be comfortable working with multiple needle sizes and construction methods.

Stitches Used

The primary stitch used in the Ombre All Day Pants is Stockinette Stitch, which creates a smooth, classic fabric ideal for fitted garments. The pattern also incorporates ribbed stitching for the waistband and cuffs, which provides elasticity and helps the pants maintain their shape. The ribbed sections ensure a secure fit at the waist and ankles. Additionally, an I-cord drawstring is created, which is a tubular cord made by working stitches on double-pointed needles in a specialized technique.

Materials and Specifications

The Ombre All Day Pants pattern requires Worsted Weight Yarn in quantities ranging from 750 yards for the smallest size to 1,290 yards for the largest size (approximately 685 to 1,180 meters). The sample garment shown in the pattern was created using Lion Brand Ferris Wheel Yarn in the Vintage Carousel colorway, which provides the ombre effect referenced in the pattern name.

The pattern calls for multiple circular needles and double-pointed needles in different sizes to accommodate the various construction stages:

  • US 3 (3 mm) 24-inch circular needle for the waistband
  • US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle or set of 5 double-pointed needles for ribbed cuff sections
  • US 7 (4.5 mm) 29-inch and 16-inch circular needles for the main body of the pants and legs
  • US 7 (4.5 mm) 2 double-pointed needles for the I-cord drawstring

Gauge

The pattern specifies a gauge of 19 stitches and 27 rows equal 4 inches when worked in Stockinette Stitch using the larger US 7 (4.5 mm) needle. Achieving the correct gauge is essential for proper fit, particularly in a fitted garment like pants where accurate measurements directly impact wearability.
