Product Description

This is a pattern for a tiny elephant! It's only 1" long! It's a member of Oh, so tiny! Collection.

Oh, so tiny! Collection has been created especially for those who (like me) love tiny things. It consists of eight cute animals: elephant, giraffe, rabbit, owl, sheep, reindeer, bear and turtle. Each amigurumi is not larger than 1.5" (2,5cm) high, sitting.

Why so tiny? Because small is beautiful. And tiny is cute. Plus, being that tiny they can double as a key ring, stitch marker or even an earring.

Can you go even smaller? Well, of course you can! I designed them to be tiny enough to be smaller than usual amis and big enough to be relatively easy to make. You can also try making the animals from these patterns with the thinnest thread and tiniest hook you can find and they’ll be even smaller.

Oh, so Tiny! Elephant Crochet Pattern

What Is Being Made

This is a miniature crocheted elephant toy designed by Justyna Kacprzak, measuring just 1 inch in length. The tiny elephant is a complete amigurumi project suitable for collectors of small handmade toys, dollhouse accessories, or as a charming finished piece in its own right. Despite its diminutive size, the elephant features distinct body parts that are worked separately and then assembled together.

Crochet Techniques Used

The elephant is constructed using continuous rounds, a fundamental amigurumi technique that allows for seamless spiral construction without joining rounds. Crafters can track their progress either by using a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round or by manually counting stitches as they work. The pattern employs standard shaping techniques including increases and decreases to form the three-dimensional body and facial features of the toy.

Crochet Stitches

The pattern utilizes basic crochet stitches appropriate for amigurumi work:

  • Chain (ch) – used for foundation and structural elements
  • Single crochet (sc) – the primary stitch for building the elephant's body
  • Half double crochet (hdc) – employed for specific shaping areas
  • Increases (inc) – created by working 2 single crochets in 1 stitch to expand sections
  • Decreases (dec) – formed by single crocheting 2 stitches together to reduce sections

The pattern also includes repeat instructions marked as x5 or x3 to indicate how many times specific stitch sequences should be worked.

Materials and Tools

The pattern calls for 100% acrylic yarn in light fingering weight, with the designer specifying approximately 569 yards (520 meters) per 100 grams. A 1.5mm crochet hook is the recommended size, though a 1.75mm hook is offered as an alternative for those who find the smaller hook uncomfortable to work with; using the larger hook will result in a slightly bigger finished elephant.

For stuffing, the designer notes that the extreme miniature size of the finished toy means minimal filling is required. The pattern recommends using the long thread tails left over from sewing body parts together, which provides sufficient stuffing material without requiring additional fiberfill. For finishing details, the pattern suggests either seed beads for the eyes or embroidered French knots as an alternative if beads are unavailable.

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are comfortable working with continuous rounds, shaping techniques, and assembling multiple components into a finished toy.
