Product Description
This is a Pattern for simple and super cosy Socks. Really fast finished and so much fun working on it. The pattern can be worked with either DK yarn or 4 ply sock yarn.
The cord knit pattern itself is shown as a Chart for each size.
My patterns are all in German and English, in US terms. My patterns are all created by myself which I really enjoy. It takes a while to create a pattern, knit it and write everything down but if there are any issues please do not hesitate to send me a message either here or on my Instagram account _Lovelyyarns.
Orchid Socks by Karin Burkart
What is Being Made
The Orchid Socks are a pair of cosy, quick-to-knit socks designed by Karin Burkart. This downloadable knitting pattern offers five European shoe sizes (34/35, 36/37, 38/39, 40/41, and 42/43) with corresponding foot lengths ranging from approximately 22 to 27.5 centimeters. The socks are ideal for knitters seeking a beginner-friendly project that delivers finished results rapidly while remaining enjoyable to construct.
Knitting Techniques Used
The Orchid Socks employ fundamental knitting techniques suitable for beginner-level crafters. The pattern uses circular knitting worked in the round across four needles, a traditional method for sock construction that eliminates the need for seaming. The sock begins with an elastic cast-on, which creates a stretchy, comfortable cuff edge. The construction progresses from the cuff downward, incorporating ribbed and stockinette sections before transitioning into the decorative stitch pattern that appears on the foot.
Stitches Used
The Orchid Socks incorporate several essential stitches. The cuff features a 2x2 ribbing pattern (alternating two knit stitches with two purl stitches) worked for 10 rounds, which creates elasticity and helps the sock stay in place. The remainder of the sock is worked in stockinette stitch, the foundational knit fabric that appears smooth on the front and textured on the back. A decorative stitch pattern is integrated into the design, worked specifically across needles 2 and 3 to create visual interest on the foot portion of the sock.
Materials and Gauge
The Orchid Socks pattern accommodates two yarn weight options, allowing knitters to choose based on preference and availability. For DK yarn, approximately 50 grams of yarn is required with 4mm needles, achieving a gauge of 20 stitches by 28 rows over 10 centimeters. For 4-ply yarn, approximately 50 grams is needed with 2.5mm needles, achieving a gauge of 36 stitches by 44 rows over 10 centimeters. Knitters should adjust needle size as necessary to reach the required gauge for their chosen yarn weight, ensuring proper fit and fabric drape.
