Newport

Newport is a crocheted scarf worked lengthwise in alternating rows of linked double crochet and linked treble crochet, edged in half double crochet.

When all the men in my family picked up my swatch and said they wanted a cardigan or scarf in it, I knew I was onto something.

My friend Carol said the horizontals of the linked treble stitches reminded her of stacks of the crab traps she saw in Newport on the West Coast when she was out with her husband. I decided to keep the name, Newport (the name, Gloucester is taken), but take a photo of the scarf next to some lobster pots in Gloucester, MA, where my son lives.
