Mosaic Mantle

Call it WAY more than a shawl. I’m calling it a mantle, a shortish, swingy cape or cloak to wear over your winter coat or jacket to jazz that thing UP! No one says you can’t wear it indoors, too, say, over a comfy turtleneck. This garment is knit with Kauni’s spectacular Effekt yarn in 8/2 fingering weight, and the color fade is dramatically long, making barely perceptible shifts in hue that result in a fabric that beguiles. The work takes on the look of a colorful mosaic with the clever use of slipped stitches. The mantle is knit in 5 pieces from the top down, and the pattern relies on increases at the edges to allow the rows of tiles to offset each other.
