Product Description
Margita Jumper is a modern crochet jumper using the traditional granny square!
The yoke is constructed from joining squares and it is finished off by splitting the top down yoke into sleeves and main body.
I used DK weight yarn and 4 mm crochet hook.
The pattern contains instructions for 2 types of sleeves - Tunisian crochet sleeves using the Tunisian knit stitch for the more adventurous crocheter or standard crochet sleeves.
The pattern uses UK crochet terms and has been written for sizes XS through to 2XL.
Margita Jumper by Veronika Cromwell
What is Being Made
The Margita Jumper is a crocheted sweater designed by Veronika Cromwell for intermediate-level crafters. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a classic pullover jumper available in six sizes ranging from Extra Small (XS) to Double Extra Large (2XL), with finished chest circumferences from 80 cm to 135 cm and finished lengths from 61 cm to 68.5 cm.
Crochet Techniques and Methods
This pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for intermediate makers. The design utilizes standard crochet construction methods with a 4 mm crochet hook as the primary tool. The pattern also includes an optional 7 mm Tunisian crochet hook, allowing crafters to incorporate Tunisian crochet techniques if desired for textural variation or alternative construction methods.
Stitches Used
The Margita Jumper pattern incorporates the following stitches:
- Chain stitch (Ch) – the foundational stitch used to create the base chains for the garment
- Double crochet (Dc) – a core stitch providing structure and fabric density throughout the jumper
- Puff stitch – a textured decorative stitch created by repeating yarn overs and loop pulls five times, then drawing yarn through all loops on the hook with a securing chain, adding visual interest and dimension to the design
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Margita Jumper pattern calls for King Cole Pricewise DK yarn in Pewter. This yarn is a DK weight (8-ply) composed of 100% acrylic fiber, offering durability and easy care. The yardage requirements vary by size: Extra Small requires 5 balls (approximately 1,410 meters/1,540 yards total), Small requires 5 balls, Medium requires 5 balls, Large requires 6 balls, Extra Large requires 7 balls, and Double Extra Large requires 8 balls. Each ball contains 282 meters or 308 yards in a 100-gram weight.
Tools and Notions
Beyond yarn and hooks, the pattern requires standard crochet accessories: stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and shaping points, scissors for yarn cutting, and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and seaming pieces together if necessary.
Pattern Format and Terminology
This is a downloadable PDF pattern that uses UK crochet terminology, which differs from US crochet terms. Crafters familiar with US terms should note the conversion differences before beginning, as UK double crochet corresponds to US single crochet, and UK terminology affects stitch height and fabric density throughout the pattern.
